Classifications of Aerial Lift Platforms & Scissor Lifts
Scissor lifts consist of a series of crisscrossed steel arms, connected to create an X pattern. When the crisscrossed arms are extended, the platform is vertically raised. There are support railings along the edges of the lifting mechanism to be able to keep the workers safe and help to secure their tools.
Scissor lifts provide a low profile that is great for concrete, pavement and hard dirt surfaces. These machines utilize either an electric motor or a combustion engine to be able to power the lifting apparatus and move the lift. The operator would need to move the lift itself if she or he needs to travel horizontally, as the lift mechanism only operates the lift vertically.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
Rough terrain scissor lifts utilize the same lifting technology as a regular scissor lift. The main difference is that the rough terrain units feature a different base that is particularly designed for uneven surfaces. These units also offer higher ground clearance and oversized all terrain tires. The rough terrain scissor lifts use 4-wheel drive in order to navigate through difficult and muddy terrain easily.
Telescopic Boom Lift
The telescopic boom lift utilizes a telescoping beam which elevates both vertically and diagonally. This particular model has a small work platform that houses controls to be able to operate the boom. The controls work with a combustion engine in order to power the hydraulics that move the lift and power the boom. The telescopic boom lift is an independent lift unit and has off-road capable tires.
Articulating Boom Lift
The articulating boom lift features 2 telescopic booms which are connected with a moving elbow mechanism. This lifting machinery has a bucket or a small work platform that is equipped with hand controls to be able to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts that are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are offered with either hard surface or off-road tires. These lifts are designed to be able to reach over top of and on top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
To be able to raise a work platform vertically into the air, the aerial mast lift utilizes a telescopic mast. The lift is usually powered electrically or pneumatically and are self-propelled units. These equipment offer a great solution for working in high racks within narrow warehouse aisles. It is essential to note that aerial mast lifts are not recommended for off-road application and are limited to vertical movement.
