Different Types of Aerial Lift
Aerial lifts are a particular kind of heavy machinery that enables personnel to be lifted into the air. These machines could be used to carry out maintenance and repairs in areas that are high up in the air such as on roofs, near power lines and street-light fixtures. Similar to most tools, there are various models of aerial lifts that can be utilized to carry out a variety of jobs. For the utmost safety, every type of different type of machinery needs proper training and specific certification before operation.
Scissor Lifts
Scissor lifts are usually called Genie lifts. They are considered the most basic type of aerial lift. These lifts are made of a platform that is lifted up using pneumatic power and are mainly utilized for indoor applications. Typically, scissor lifts are the safest type of lift models. When totally compressed, these scissor lifts can be driven like large carts. Normally, when the platform is extended, they could not be driven for safety reasons. Before anyone could use these devices, workers must be licensed as operators.
Boom Lifts
Compared to a scissor lift, boom lifts are a lot more complicated kind of aerial lift machine. A boom lift has a wide base in order to keep the lift anchored. It utilizes a jointed arm which has a bucket on the end of it. There is a control box located in the bucket which enables the operator to lower and lift the bucket. Because the arm of the boom is jointed, it can move from side to side also. The boom lift looks like a tail of a metal scorpion. Usually, it is used in outdoor construction applications. The boom lift is considered to be more risky to run compared to scissor lifts, therefore, operators must be licensed separately for these kinds of lifts.
